Can I pray Tahajjud without Witr

Many of us perform Tahajjud. Before that, witr is not performed. Then this question comes to our mind, Can I pray Tahajjud without Witr? Discussing this answer here.

Can I pray Tahajjud without Witr?

Yes, I can pray Tahajjud without Witr. Because witr has nothing to do with Tahajjud. But if a person does not perform the Witr prayer along with the Isha prayer in the first part of the night, then he should perform the Witr prayer along with Tahajjud.

And it is better if you are convinced about performing Tahajjud, then perform it with Tahajjud instead of performing Witr with Isha prayer. The witr essentially makes the night prayer uncomplicated. So if you perform Tahajjud at night then you should perform witr along with Tahajjud.

The Prophet, may God bless him and grant him peace, used to perform this prayer in two rak’ahs. This prayer can be read with any surah. But he used to pray in long Qaraat. So it is better to perform Tahajjud in a long Qaraat.

In Takbeer Tahrima, the intention is to say ‘Allahu Akbar’. – Then read Chana. – Read Surah Fateha. Rasulullah sallallahu alayhi wa sallam used to read very long kerat.

Then perform ruku, sajda like other prayers. This is how to complete the prayer by saying Tashahhud, Durood and Dua Machura after performing the second Rak’at and returning the Salam. It is better to perform 8 rakat Tahajjud prayers in two rakats in this way.

Benefits of Tahajjud and Witi prayers

Abu Hurairah Radiyallahu Anhu said, Rasulullah Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam said, “After the obligatory prayer, Tahajjud prayer i.e. the night prayer is the best among the obligatory prayers.” (Muslim, Tirmidhi, Nasa’i).

Allah Ta’ala ordered the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) to perform Tahajjud prayer, especially at night. Allah Ta’ala says – “O you who are covered with a sheet, stand in the night prayer except for some parts.” (Surah Muzammil: verses 1-2)

The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) ordered this prayer to be performed before the 5 daily prayers became obligatory in the early days of Islam. Priyanbi was not instructed to pray at certain times but was instructed to stay awake all night except for some part of the night.

One class of people who will be able to enter Jannah free of charge are those who perform the Tahajjud prayer with care. This prayer has been urged in various surahs of the Quran.

Therefore, after the Prophet, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, the Sahaba, Tabeei, Tabe-Tabee and scholars of all ages spent the night in Tahajjud prayer.

Benefits of witr prayer

Witr prayer is not obligatory as a fard, but it is a virtuous prayer. It is proved from the description of hadith-

Khareja Ibn Hujafatul Adavi Radiyallahu Anhu narrated that the Prophet, may God bless him and grant him peace, came to us and said:

إن الله تعالى قد أمدكم بصلاة وهي خير لكم من حُمرِ النَّعم، وهي الوِتر، وجعلها لكم فيما بين العشاء إلى طلوع الفجر

“Allah the Great has given you an extra prayer, which is better for you than a red camel.” That is witr. The time for you to perform this prayer is ‘from the time of ‘Isha’ prayer until the dawn of dawn.

Ali Radiyallahu Anhu narrated, Witr prayer is not an essential (obligatory) prayer like your obligatory prayers. Rather, the Messenger of Allah, may God bless him and grant him peace, established (this prayer) as a Sunnah for you. He (the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him) said:

يا أهل القرآن أوتروا فإن الله تعالى وتر يحب الوتر

O people of the Quran! Read the witr; Because Allah Ta’ala Witr (unmatched), He loves Witr.’ (Tirmidhi, Ibn Majah, Abu Dawud, Musnad Ahmad)

So it is better to perform Witr prayer from after Isha to Fajr time. Because the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) always prayed Witr. There is no dispute about witr prayer (far-wajib-sunnat Muakkadah). Rather, as a practice of the beloved Prophet, everyone should pray Witr.

Tahajjud and Witr prayer time

Witir and Tahajjud prayers can be offered from the time of Isha prayer till the time of Sadek in the morning. But it is better to perform the Tahajjud prayer after midnight. It is best to perform the Tahajjud prayer on the last night.

Rakaat of Tahajjud and Witr prayer

Tahajjud prayers are narrated from 2 to 12 rakats. Minimum 2 rakat and maximum 12 rak’at. Rasulullah Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam used to recite 8 Rakat Tahajjud. So it is better to read 8 Rakat Tahajjud. But it is not necessary to read it.

If possible perform 12 Rakat Tahajjud. But it is better to pray 8 rak’ahs. If not possible, perform 4 rak’ahs. If that is not possible then it is better to perform Tahajjud even if it is 2 Rakat. However, the Tahajjud prayer has no effect.

And witr can be recited three rakat or one rakat. Dissemination is essentially disentanglement. Sometimes 1 rakat or 3 rakats are performed to complete the night prayer.

Time and status of Witr prayer

Witr prayer should be read from after Isha to Fajr. It is night prayer. Rasulullah sallallahu alayhi wa sallam never missed two prayers in any condition of traveling or traveling outside of the obligatory prayers. One of them is the night Witr prayer and the Fajr Sunnah prayer.

Nabi sallallahu alayhi wa sallam said about witr prayer:

‘Surely Allah has helped you with a prayer, which is better for you than a red camel; And that is – ‘Bitar’. He fixed it (the time of offering this prayer) from Isha to the rising of Fajr.’ (Abu Dawud, Tirmidhi, Ibn Majah, Mustadrake Hakeem)

Although there is a difference of opinion on whether this night’s Witr prayer is wajib or sunnah Muakkadah, the prayer is very meritorious. This is why the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) used to pray the Witr prayer whenever he was travelling. He never missed this prayer.

However, witr prayer is not the same as an obligatory prayer. The hadith about this has come to pass –

Sufyan Sawri and others on the authority of Abu Ishaq, on the authority of Asim Ibn Jamrah, on the authority of Hazrat Ali, may God be pleased with him, who said:

The Witar prayer is not an essential prayer like the obligatory prayer. Rather, it is the Sunnah prayer established by the Messenger of Allah, may God bless him and grant him peace.
