Some people who are not proficient in the knowledge of Qur’an hadith, but think themselves very wise or great scholars, say that five times prayer is not proved by the Qur’an.

However, the real reality is that Allah Ta’ala has given the Prophet sallallaahu ‘alaihi wa sallam a gift to the Ummah by reducing the prayer from 50 times to 5 times on the night of Miraj. And it is fard or essential for people to pray five times a day.

The five daily prayers are prescribed in the Qur’anic verses

In fact, these words created by the scholars have no basis at all and they are not correct at all. Rather, according to the instructions of the Holy Quran, 5 prayers are prescribed every day. Allah Ta’ala clearly states the times of the five daily prayers:

فَسُبْحَانَ اللَّهِ حِينَ تُمْسُونَ وَحِينَ تُصْبِحُونَ

So, glorify Allah when you reach the evening (with the Maghrib and Isha prayers) and when you rise in the morning (with the Fajr prayers). – Surah Rum: verse 17

And in the afternoon (by Asr prayer) and at the time of Zuhr. And all praise in the heavens and the earth belongs to Him alone.’ – Surah Rum: verse 18

In the two verses mentioned in Surah Rum, Allah Tasbeeh means praying. The time mentioned in these two verses is the five times prayer time.

In the first verse, the word ‘Tumsuna’ (evening) means Maghrib and Isha, and the word ‘Tusbihun’ (morning) means Fajr prayer. And in the second verse he mentions the time of Asr prayer by the word ‘Ashyan’ (evening/afternoon) and the time of Zuhr prayer by the word ‘Tuzahirun’ (afternoon). -Fathul Qadir, Ahsanul Bayan

The wisdom and secrets of certain worships have been described by Almighty Allah and His Messenger. And the wisdom and secrets of any worship are not described in the Qur’an and Hadith.

As the wisdom of fasting has been described, ‘O you who believe, fasting has been enjoined upon you, as it was enjoined upon those before you, that you may attain piety or piety. (Surah: Baqarah, verse: 183)

In the Qur’an and Hadith, prayer is given the utmost importance. But nowhere is the wisdom of prayer—specifically the reasons for fixing the time for prayer—explained directly and clearly.

It has been mentioned in one place about prayer: ‘Pray in remembrance of me. (Surah: Ta-ha, verse: 14)

That does not mean that there is no wisdom and mystery in timing the five obligatory prayers. Because Allah Ta’ala is the greatest Hakim and Wise.

Therefore, none of His creations, any law given by Him can be devoid of wisdom. So what is the wisdom, in the light of which you have to perform obligatory prayers at five times a day?

Throughout the ages, Islamic scholars have tried to unravel that wisdom and mystery. Hakimul Ummat Maulana Ashraf Ali Thanvi (RA) wrote:

“From a verse of the Holy Quran, the wisdom, truth and philosophical explanation of giving five times a day prayer is known. Allah Ta’ala has said,

“Proclaim Allah’s glory and majesty in the evening and in the morning and in the afternoon and at Zohar.” All praise belongs to Him in the heavens and the earth. ’ (Surah: Room, Verses: 17-18)

What happens if you pray 5 times a day?

According to the Islamic scholar Shah Waliullah Dehlavi (RA), daily repeated prayers provide nourishment for the soul and spirit. Through this, the human heart is turned away from creation and towards the creator.

See in his words: ‘If the Muslim Ummah does not continue to keep a daily account and monitoring of life and actions, then the political and social structure of this Ummah cannot be smooth and perfect.

Almighty Allah has made that arrangement by ordering five times daily prayer. Waiting for the prayer beforehand and preparing for the prayer are basically part of the prayer. In this way, most of the time of the day comes down to prayer. (Hujjatullahil Baliga, Volume-1, Page-78)

Dr. Yusuf al-Karzawi (d.a.) wrote in his book “Al-Ibadatu Fil Islam”: “The provision of five daily prayers is like a ‘bathroom’ for the purity of the soul and spirit. Through this all kinds of heedlessness in the hearts of Muslims.
