Abu Huraira RA. Narrated hadith; The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said:
أَفْضَلُ الصِّيَامِ بَعْدَ رَمَضَانَ شَهْرُ اللهِ الْمُحَرّمُ، وَأَفْضَلُ الصّلاَةِ بَعْدَ الْفَرِيضَةِ، صَلاَةُ اللّيْلِ
The best time to fast after Ramadan is the month of Muharram and the best prayer after the obligatory prayer is the night prayer, i.e. Tahajjud. (Sahih Muslim, Hadith 2725)
Is Tahajjud an invitation from Allah?

An invitation to intimacy

كَانَ يَقُومُ مِنَ اللّيْلِ, حَتّى تَتَفَطّرَ قَدَمَاهُ, فَقَالَتْ عَایِشَةُ: لِمَ تَصْنَعُ هَذَا يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ, وَقَدْ غَفَرَ اللهُ لَكَ مَا تَقدّمَ مِن ْ ذَنْبِكَ وَمَا تَأَخّرَ? قَالَ: أَفَلاَ أُحِبّ أَنْ أَكُونَ عَبْدًا شَكُورًا.
(The Prophet) used to pray standing up at night so much that his feet would swell. Seeing this, he said, O Messenger of God! You are suffering so much, yet all your past sins are forgiven!
The Prophet, may God bless him and grant him peace, said, “Shouldn’t I be a grateful servant (by worshiping Allah for this great bounty)?” – Sahih Bukhari, Hadith 4837; Sahih Muslim, Hadith 2820
He didn’t leave willingly, sometimes even if he ran unwillingly, he would do it. Ummul Mumineen Ayesha. It has been narrated that, if the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) could not perform Tahajjud due to illness or any other reason, he would perform twelve Rak’ats during the day.
